I believe the attitude in BigLaw is very similar to investment banking--that is, chauvinistic, work at all costs, and to hell with those who can't or wont. Fortunately, I have found a niche in what is known as a mid-size firm, where I am appreciated for what I bring to the table, as an energetic female associate with ideas. I am not afraid to voice my opinions to anyone, including the managing partner, and believe it, he appreciates my opinions. There is no male egos at our firm, and unlike Duggan, I expect to be made a partner in a few years. Finally, I don't care for men who carry around their credentials on their sleeve--I certainly am not impressed with a guy who goes parading around telling women that he works at [NAME OF BIGLAW FIRM]. While I don't claim to be in the biggest firm, I am at a firm people have heard of, and that's what counts. So hang in there, it is possible to go from PODUNK to NYC, just work hard, and make a great impression.
